HARARE – MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti said Chilonga residents feel isolated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a well-known perpetrator of the Gukurahundi atrocities in the Matebeleland area.
The overwhelming statement follows the impending evictions of Chilonga villagers from their ancestral home to allow the Dendairy owner to grow alfalfa for his dairy cattle.
The local dairy company (Dendiary), owned by white farmer Neville Coetzee and linked to Mnangagwa, was given the green light to evict at least 12,000 Chilonga, Chiredzi villagers from their ancestral lands before a court interrupted the process.
The government said it would be willing to carry out these unpopular expulsions even after a court decision has declared them illegal.
Biti said villagers told him they were well aware that Mnangagwa valued the grass more and is secretly trying to remove them from the area.
