MASVINGO – The electoral board, Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) has reported through its Masvingo provincial office that only 73 people registered to vote in the month of June 2021.

The latest worrying figure was revealed by the commission’s deputy Provincial Election Officer (PEO), Maxwell Ncube, who appreciated the registration as a great improvement.

Ncube said there is a great improvement this time around compared to previous months as more people are starting to register at their centres.

“A total of 73 people registered to vote in the month of June up from 6 for the month of May which is about 91.1 percent increase,” said Ncube.

The provincial officer also appreciated efforts done by different groups to encourage young people to register for elections.

The increase is due to the information that is circulating on social media platforms and a radio program which was launched by Provincial Election Officer, Zex Pudurai urging youths to register at the offices which are operating throughout districts even during this lockdown period,” he added.

According to the data, of the 73 people who registered in the province in the month of June, Gutu has 44 people, Masvingo recorded 23, Chiredzi only 4 and Mwenezi had one person.

Places like Zaka, Bikita and Chivi did not register anyone during the same period.
