HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa praised State security agents’ on Friday over their recent brutal clampdown on protesters, saying they were simply enforcing COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
Mnangagwa who came to power in November 2017 through a de facto coup which deposed the late strongman Robert Mugabe also dismissed allegations of presiding over gross human rights violations in Zimbabwe.
Addressing members of the Political Actors’ Dialogue (Polad) in Harare, Mnangagwa insisted that “contrary to social media claims”, there was no crisis in the country.
The under fire ruler once again reached out to opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa and other opposition leaders for dialogue to end the country’s myriad crises.
Speaking at the meeting, Mnangagwa said the door remained open for Chamisa and other opposition leaders who had earlier snubbed the Polad platform to join him there and work together to deal with Zimbabwe’s problems.
