Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa will certainly be at the centre of online trolls once again after addressing another ’empty’ global auditorium at the COP26 Summit in Glasglow.
The leader of the troubled southern African nation was shunned by global leaders during his keynote delivery moment at the United Nations organized meeting to discuss climate change.
It is not the first time Mnangagwa has addressed an empty ‘auditorium’ as he faced the same embarrassment in 2019 at annual United Nations General Assembly summit in New York.
In his address to the ‘absent’ global leaders, Mnangagwa blamed sanctions for stifling efforts by his government to contribute to climate change issues.
“Zimbabwe has not been spared from climate change challenges which have led to an increasing frequency of severe droughts and cyclone induced floods.
“These, coupled with the economic sanctions imposed on us and the Covid-19 pandemic have had negative impacts on the lives and livelihoods of the people of my country,” said the President Mnangagwa while addressing heads of state attending the COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Mnangagwa hogged the limelight before the start of the conference for hiring a private jet from Azerbaijan which costs around US$1 million.
