HARARE – The ruling Zanu PF party has accused its ministers of leaking confidential minutes to its sworn enemies, including the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The latest revelations come amid allegations of a rift between the appointments of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the heavyweights of the ruling party.
Acting Zanu PF spokesman Patrick Chinamasa told reporters in Harare at a press briefing that Mnangagwa’s cabinet has moles who serve foreign interests.
The outspoken Chinamasa said the leaked protocols had been part of discussions in Britain’s parliament in the past, something not taken lightly by the Revolutionary Party, which has ruled the country for 40 years.
Chinamas also said his party was ready for by-elections at any time and was going ahead with its primaries despite an indefinite government ban, ostensibly to curb the spread of Covid-19.
He said Zanu PF will continue its primaries in all free constituencies and council districts.
Most of the vacant seats were created after interim MDC-T chairman Thokozani Khupe recalled several MPs and councilors elected in 2018 under the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance.
